What is an End Grain Cutting Board?
We create our end-grain cutting boards by gluing together small pieces of wood with their ends facing up. This creates a surface where the wood fibers stand vertically, not horizontally, as in edge grain boards. This style of board is gentler on knives as the knife slips through the wood fibers instead of across them. End grain boards also are known to be “self healing.” This means that once the knife leaves the board, the wood fibers close back up minimizing any knife marks.
Attention to detail
All of our end grain boards are double sided. You may use one side for cutting and the other for serving, or reserve one side for meats leaving the other side for everything else.
The addition of finger grooves allows you to transfer it from counter to table with ease.
All of the wood is rescued
We have rescued all of our wood from trees throughout Michigan. We will never cut down trees for the purpose of making a product. All of the wood we have has come from trees that have been downed due to storms, power company maintenance, or by the homeowner.
We create all of our end grain cutting boards in house, by hand. We control the entire process, from log to board, assuring you that you are purchasing a product you can be proud of. You might also like our beautiful cookbook stands and coasters.
Charcuterie and Cutting Board Care and Maintenance
We dip all of our end grain cutting boards in food grade mineral oil and finish with our own combination of beeswax, carnauba wax, and food grade mineral oil.
Wash your end grain cutting board with a mild dish soap and water. NEVER PLACE WOOD BOARD IN A DISHWASHER! Dry immediately with a cloth. Store your board on its side, do not lie flat, to prevent warping. End grain boards tend to absorb moisture more easily so they may require more frequent waxing and oiling. We recommend using our Board Balm, or a comparable product, whenever the board feels dry to the touch to maintain their condition.
